Cape Fear Otolaryngology is committed to the treatment of the diseases of the
ear, nose, and throat. Our staff is experienced and provides excellent

Dr. Eric Mansfield was born in Alexandria, LA on December 4, 1964. He attended Howard University in Washington, DC and received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry. While in Washington, Dr. Mansfield completed an internship with the National Institutes of Health and completed research on the Federal Healthcare program, Medicare. As a college freshman, Dr. Mansfield became involved in a leadership role as Student Council class president. He continued to lead his classmates throughout college in the ROTC program, and was chosen as Student of the Year his Senior year by Howard University students and faculty. In addition, Dr. Mansfield completed a rotation in Ranger Battalion while a student at Howard.. He then attended the prestigious and historic Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Mansfield obtained his Doctor of Medicine in 1991. While at Morehouse, Dr. Mansfield received the Family Practice Student Award. He then relocated to New Orleans, LA to attend Surgical Residency at Tulane University School of Medicine from 1991-1993. Dr. Mansfield was awarded Teaching Resident of the year by the Department of Surgery, OWL club Outstanding Resident Award, and Intern of the Year for his work during 1991-1992. Dr. Mansfield then completed Otolaryngology residency from 1993-1996. Dr. Mansfield then acted of Chief Resident for the Tulane School of Medicine Ear Nose and Throat program from 1996 to 1997.
Upon completion of medical training, Dr. Mansfield relocated to Ft. Bragg, NC. He then acted as the Battalion Medical Officer for the 2-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 82 nd Airborne Division from 1997-1999. Dr. Mansfield was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal in 1998. Dr. Mansfield deployed in Task Force Hawk to Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo in 1999 where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. Dr. Mansfield also served as the Chief of Otolaryngology Services at Womack Army Medical Center from 1998-2001. In 2001, Dr. Mansfield left the Army and opened Cape Fear Otolaryngology, an Ear Nose and Throat practice. In 2004, he opened Cape Fear Aesthetics, Fayetteville’s premier Medical Day Spa.
Dr. Mansfield has conducted medical research on many topics. They include: Head and Neck Trauma, Sinusitis, Tumors of the Head, Tonsillectomy, Surgical Approach to Voice Disorders, and Keloid and Scar formation.
Dr. Mansfield was called to the Ministry in Atlanta, GA in 1988 at Antioch Baptist Church. He led the College Student’s Sunday School Class. Dr. Mansfield was ordained by Rev. John D. Fuller, Sr. at Lewis Chapel Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC in 2001.
Dr. Mansfield, his wife, and son reside in Fayetteville, NC. He has a daughter in Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Edward E. Dickerson, IV was born in Landstuhl, Germany. He attended West Virginia State College, where he received a Presidential Scholarship. Dr. Dickerson graduated Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. While in school, Dr. Dickerson led his fellow classmates in school spirit as the school’s Mascot. Dr. Dickerson was commissioned in 1988 by the ROTC program and branch Medical Service Corps. He was nationally recognized with the ROTC Cadet of the Year Award.
Dr. Dickerson then attended the prestigious and historic Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Dickerson became involved in a leadership role by participating as class president his freshman year, President of the National Medical Association, and as a member of the Consortium of Medical Students. Dr. Dickerson relocated to Fort Sam Houston, TX to complete his surgical internship at Brooke Army Medical Center. He received additional training in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Combat Casualty Care. Dr. Dickerson then served as the 2nd Brigade Surgeon of the 325 Airborne Infantry Regimen in the 82nd Airborne Division here at Ft. Bragg, NC. He then returned to Brooke Army Medical Center to complete additional training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. He then returned to Ft. Bragg to serve as the Chief of Staff of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck surgery at Womack Army Medical Center. While serving his country, Dr. Dickerson was recognized with the Meritorious Service Award, Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, and promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. In 2004, Dr. Dickerson left to join Dr. Eric Mansfield in practice at Cape Fear Otolaryngology. Last year, Dr. Dickerson and Dr. Mansfield opened Fayetteville’s Premier Medical Day Spa, Cape Fear Aesthetics.
Dr. Dickerson has participated in medical research on many topics. They include: Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma of the Head and Neck, Treatment of Burn Patients on the Battlefield, Aero medical Transfer of Burn Patients, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Dr. Dickerson is a member of Lewis Chapel Baptist Church, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the National Medical Association, and the North Carolina Medical Society. He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Dickerson, his wife, and three children reside here in Fayetteville, NC.
