Dr. Eric Mansfield was born in Louisiana, but grew up in Columbus, Georgia.  He attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. and received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry.  He attended Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. Mansfield obtained his Doctor of Medicine in 1991.  While at Morehouse, Dr. Mansfield received the Family Practice Student Award.  He then relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend Surgical Residency at Tulane University School of Medicine from 1991-1993.  Dr. Mansfield was awarded Teaching Resident of the Year by the Department of Surgery, OWL club Outstanding Resident Award, and Intern of the Year for his work during 1991-1992.   Dr. Mansfield then completed Otolaryngology residency from 1993-1996.  Dr. Mansfield acted as Chief Resident for the Tulane School of Medicine’s Ear, Nose and Throat program from 1996 to 1997.  Dr. Mansfield became board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery in 1998.

Upon completion of training, Dr. Mansfield relocated to Ft. Bragg, NC.  He then acted as the Battalion Medical Officer for the 2-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1997-1999.  Dr. Mansfield also served as the Chief of Otolaryngology Services at Womack Army Medical Center from 1998-2001.  In 2001, Dr. Mansfield left the Army and opened Cape Fear Otolaryngology, an Ear, Nose and Throat practice.

Dr. Mansfield has conducted medical research on many topics that include:  Head and Neck Trauma, Sinusitis, Tumors of the Head, Tonsillectomy, Surgical Approach to Voice Disorders, and Keloid and Scar Formation.
